Brian Brandstetter started in the telecommunications industry with Ottawa Cablevision in 1982, after graduating from Algonquin College in Ottawa. After 10 years in various positions in outside plant and maintenance, he joined Lincien College as a Telecommunications Instructor. Through the TEST (Telecommunications Engineered System Technician) program, he also developed an electronics program that complimented TEST. Teaching and curriculum development have become passions that Brian carries with him today.
In 2003, Brian moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia, to take on the role of Training Manager with Eastlink Cable, Brian developed and facilitated technical training for the Atlantic region. As the department grew, training rolled out to other areas acquired by the company and spanned from St. John’s, Newfoundland to Delta, BC. A comprehensive web learning system was implemented to complement existing hands-on and theoretical learning.
After leaving Eastlink, Brian purchased Mississauga Training Consultants (MTC). Founded in 1997, MTC provides Fiber Optic Association (FOA) certified training and sales/support to related industries and individuals across Canada. MTC specializes in custom-built courses and provides a strong hands-on program to help current and future students, technicians, managers, and staff better understand communication technologies.
Brian says, “being a part of the community has also given me insight and knowledge. As a member of the Halifax based Metro Community Housing Association (MCHA) board of directors for the past four years has allowed me to give back to a community.” He continues, “having seen the changes and improvements in the industry over the past 33 years, I look forward to continued growth and helping the industry become the leader in integrated communications.
